How Martial Arts and Tae Kwon Do Can Help with Bullying

We are right at the cusp of back to school season. It is a time when many parents are back from their trips and ready to help their child thrive not only in school but outside of school as well. An option that you’ll have available to you is martial arts, including Tae Kwon Do.

One of the reasons that parents are hesitant about Tae Kwon Do – and all martial arts – is because they’re worried that it teaches violence.

Rest assured, it does not.

We do teach self-defense. But we also teach discipline, confidence, focus, and the ability to find power in oneself. We work with young people on building their inner strength, worried much less about exhibiting outer strength, and we surround them with other supportive children that are there to help them feel even more ready to take on the world.

Anti-Bullying Programs with Master P’s Tae Kwon Do

We do not teach violence. But many parents are worried about bullying in schools:

  • How will my son or daughter protect themselves?
  • What happens if they’re getting picked on?
  • How can I make sure my child will be okay?

Rather than teach violence, what we teach is anti-bullying. We show children not only how to protect themselves physically, but mentally as well. We help them build physical strength so that they are less likely to be hurt. We also teach them mental strength, so that someone picking on them will affect them less in the months and years to come.

At Master P’s Tae Kwon Do, we specifically have an anti-bullying program designed around this. It centers on what to do, how to protect yourself, how to make yourself big and powerful. How to handle unwanted experiences proudly and how to move forward afterwards.

Our anti-bullying programs are one of the ways that we make martial arts more accessible to everyone. We also work on teaching children how *not* to be bullies, and how to make sure you show respect to everyone regardless of ability or size.

Martial arts teaches respect for others and respect for self, along with a physical toughness that will help make sure children can handle themselves when needed.

Martial Arts for the New School Year

The skills children learn from these types of anti-bullying programs and self-defense courses are skills that they can keep with them over the rest of their lives. Mental toughness, confidence, and more – these are tools that will help them well into adulthood, in addition to reducing some of the traumas that come from bullying in youth.

At Master P’s Tae Kwon Do, we want to encourage parents to consider our programs this upcoming year and see why we have so many students commit to black belts once they’ve entered our programs. Sign up for the new school year today to get one week free!
